our story
Drifter Brewing was founded in Cape Town in 2015 — but its roots stretch further back, across the oceans. Long before craft beer, the founder’s parents built a yacht, christening it Drifter, and sailed around the world for nearly ten years. That voyage inspired a legacy of exploration, risk, and ocean-born stories.
When Nicholas “Nick” Bush moved into brewing, that same spirit drove him deeper. In 2016, we submerged our first Belgian Tripels at the confluence of two mighty currents. Four years underwater — in the motion, pressure, and darkness of the sea — transformed them into something extraordinary: smoother, layered, and alive in character.
What began as a bold experiment has become legend. Today, Ocean Aged Tripel is collected in Europe, poured in elite restaurants in China, and celebrated by brewers worldwide. It’s not just beer — it’s the sea’s own story in a bottle.
